David Rowley, previous Chair of Gorlin Syndrome Group, is running his first Half Marathon in September of this year, taking part in the Robin Hood Half in Nottingham, and raising funds for Gorlin Syndrome Group. The charity and this rare genetic condition are very close to his heart as his son James was diagnosed with it when he was 4 years old. More details are available on his just giving page, but the condition means that sufferers have many skin cancers (BCCs) and jaw cysts (Keratocysts) over their lifetime which are normally treated by surgery along with some other unpleasant symptoms.
David is far from a natural runner and has never run a Half Marathon before, but training is going well under the watchful eye of his training partner George the Springer Spaniel. George is not the most motivating of partners in honesty as he never seems to tire or even break into a sweat no matter the distance. On a plus note though he is remarkably willing to support and has never said no to coming out with David so far! Some of David’s more understandably skeptical colleagues out there find it hard to believe David is running!
The charity supports patients, champions research and new treatments, as well as raising awareness of the condition in the medical community, which is often surprisingly lacking, and Gorlin syndrome is often missed until later in someone’s life. Gorlin Syndrome Group’s work is funded by the generosity of people, such as David, who are willing to fundraise for us for which we are extremely thankful.
David will be very grateful for any support received.
