Early in 2016 a study commenced in the UK at Manchester Royal Infirmary and The Royal London Hospital.
The study involved testing a new medication called Patidegib Gel in individuals who have Gorlin Syndrome aged 18 – 25 years, also known as nevoid basal cell carcinoma or basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS), The aim of the study was to find out if the new gel applied to the skin can reduce the size of tumours, prevent growth of new tumours, and therefore reduce the need for tumour removal surgery.
The drug company Pellepharm first shared topline data from a Phase 2 study conducted in the UK in July 2017 that showed early promise for topical patidegib for the mitigation of BCC tumors in Gorlin Syndrome.
It is anticipated that a further study will follow with Phase 3 Clinical Trial.
